The ICC World T20 2020 Schedule will be released in the coming year. Australia will be hosting the tournament for the first time. Unlike the ICC 2015 World Cup, Australia will be hosting the tournament on their own and not with New Zealand. Usually, the tournament is held every two years, but the ICC World T20 2020 tournament will be the first since 2016. The West Indies head into the tournament as the defending champions, as they beat England in the 2016 final courtesy of a Carlos Brathwaite masterclass.

Although the ICC World T20 2020 Schedule has not been announced, the venues which will host matches have been. There were no major shocks, with the Adelaide Oval, Perth Stadium, Melbourne Cricket Ground and Sydney Cricket Ground among the eight venues. Interestingly, as the ICC World T20 2020 Schedule is being drawn up, there could be more teams added to the tournament. The ICC has come under heavy criticism for having a ten team ODI World Cup in 2019 and in 2016 the ICC chief executive said they were looking into adding more teams to the tournament. This is perhaps the delay in releasing the ICC World T20 2020 Schedule.

As per every ICC event, there are some things that we can already expect from the ICC World T20 2020 Schedule. In most ICC tournaments, India and Pakistan are deliberately put in the same group. Since the two teams never play each other in bilateral series, the ICC like to pair them in the same group so that they can play each other. An added incentive is that the intense rivalry will spark worldwide interest and more people will watch the match.

After this 2020 T20 World Cup, the next T20 World Cup is scheduled to be in the following year, 2021. That year’s tournament will be hosted by India alone.

ICC World T20 2020: Date

The tournament is expected to get underway on the 18th of October 2020 and will be played until the 15th of November 2020.
